Class Descriptions

   Puppy (4 to 6 months)

This class is designed to introduce puppies to new surroundings, new people and other animals. Behavioral characteristics of young puppies as well as health and nutritional needs will be discussed. Beginning obedience activities will be introduced.
   Basic
This class is designed for the first time handlers and dogs without any prior training.  Students will be taught skills in attention and control of the dog.  Commands taught include heel, sit, down, stay and come.
   Advanced Basic
Graduates of Basic Obedience class or experienced handlers with dogs that have the basic level of training are eligible for this class.  This class refines the skills taught in Basic Obedience and prepares students for the Canine Good Citizens Test.  It provides the foundation for the Novice level.  This class may be repeated several times until the desired level of control is achieved.
   Novice
Students in the Novice class begin the final preparation for actively competing in AKC Obedience Trials.  Classes will include heeling and staying exercises and rule book interpretation.  Dogs must be able to work on a loose lead and complete Novice Level (CD) stay exercises to be eligible for this class.  This class may be Repeated several times.
   Open or Utility
